Archie Madzogo’s Music Targets The World's Hearts

The world's developments in technology, beliefs and culture seem to be pushing chaos more than benefits. Information and Communication Technology ICT has brought a fair share of benefits and adverse effects to the world’s societies. Information is now readily available at anyone’s finger tips through the World Wide Web or internet.   Cultural exchange and dissemination is now very easy. Fashion trends, entertainment, news, products are now easily detected on internet and the impact is both detrimental and convenient depending on individual coaching. Cultural degradation, drug abuse, cyber crimes, pornography and human trafficking are most prevalent crimes affecting societies. Solutions to this seem remote.   Archie Madzogo is inspired to use his music to change the negative impact of technology and globalisation on world societies. Since 2010 Archie Madzogo has been writing songs. He reiterate that some of his music come through dreams. While he is asleep th...

Members Of The Zimura New Era Group Come Together In A Peace and Substance Abuse Double Single

Written by FFF Away from the Zimura legitimacy fights and bad publicity, the Zimura New Era Interim Board brought together members for appeal songs to fellow Zimbabweans. The two songs are directed at two current thematic issues, peace and drug abuse.  Speaking to Phillip Chipfumbu the leader of the Zimura New Era pressure group who revealed that the songs are a dedication to Zimbabwe during the election period and beyond. Phillip went on to say that as musicians they are duty bound to spread messages of national reconciliation and responsibility among citizens. The two songs were recorded on 26 July at Simba Studios in Westgate. The recording was done from 10 am to the following day at 8 am. I, Fred Farai Finto (FFF) coordinated the event. 20 musicians participated in the project that I believe our government and people of Zimbabwe are going to accept. The songs were composed and recorded right at the same time, you can't put together musicians and fail to get a song or two...

Fiona Chinembiri Not Deterred By The Unconventional Music Industry

Written by Fred Farai Nyakudanga FFF Bribery seems a normal requirement for recognition in the music sector, its how much money you pay that matter irrespective of how much you are talented or not. The value chain seems to have also succumbed to economic challenges, investment in the music sector is now very low since the departure of Gramma Records. Under such detrimental circumstances Fiona Chinembiri still finds reason to produce music. The fact that she sings gospel music compounds her situation, her values encourage her to stay away from immoral elevation. Fiona has recently dropped a faith reassurance single Uchabereka . The name says it all, hold on do not give up. Though the song is directed to Zimbabwean audiences, it speaks to the singer too equally it does to anyone. Fiona started professional singing in 2002 when she released Dzokai Kunashe under Gospel Train, a follow up album Isai Pa Calvary was released in 2004 under the famous Gramma Records.  Fiona Chi...

Lucky Kumene To Heads-up Fans Of Upcoming Album at Eastpoint.

This year should be named Sungura Rejuvenated. It all started with the King himself Alick Macheso. He set the pace with his Album Tinosvitswa Kure, the over subscribed album launch at Aquatic Complex sent confidence that Sungura is still alive. After a couple of years struggling, sungura music is making headlines again. Dancehall had been dominating with the late Soul Jah Love, Winky D, Killer T giving sungura musicians a run for their money. The way Killer T revolved the Dancehall lyrics to relate with people's day to day living made Dancehall music acceptable to all ages. The winds are kind of balanced now, sungura has resurfaced with Alick Macheso leading while Mark Ngwazi, Romeo Gasa pursue.  Lucky Kumene is busy replenishing his armoury to apprehend the hype while it lasts. Today 14 October Lucky Kumene is playing at Eastpoint, this show is kind of a rehearsal to his album launch to follow in December at the same venue.  Lucky Kumene is an underrated sungura kingpi...

Mjolo Charge Up Precious Hanya To Pen A Song

Precious Hanya is not new in this game, he has 3 albums to his name so far, the scarcity of legal distribution channels is forcing him and other musicians to trade their maximum effort for other professions that are paying, Mr P Uncle Bae as he is affectionately called in the music circles is a full time electrician.  The haphazard and non paying music distribution is discouraging even though he makes sure the society is enlightened. Precious makes sure he casts out a song out of his social analysis abilities. The society celebrates trends as an in thing but does not look at how detrimental it is to them. Whether it is out of ignorance the consequences burden the society. Mjolo is a trending practice that has different names depending from area and area. Cheating in relationships is a tradition that has grown so bad due to modernisation. Men and women boast of the practice but the effects on morals, health and crime is worrisome. Mr P (Uncle Bae) was quick to unpack the Mjol...

Zimbabwean Kanindo Crooner Declares His Time Is Now Or Never.

Written by Fred Farai Finto FFF  I really wanted to understand why Tapiwa Samanyanga was so bold to say that he accepted nothing else besides a slot at the top. Samanyanga reiterated that “no one belongs on top forever”.  For the 2 decades I have dealt with musicians, I have come to believe their high superiority appetite. Each and every individual musician before release feels his/her art is what the world is waiting for. It’s positive in a way because it boosts confidence but there must be enough research to justify. It’s risky if self judgement is taking centre stage without any feedback from a reasonable sample. The way the music industry is being undermined as a chance business has led to the downfall of so many talented musicians. So does Tapiwa has appropriate backing for the treasonous move he has pronounced? I was prompted to do some background checks. My eagerness was to understand where really this young man ejected from, who Tapiwa rubbed shoulders w...

Management and Promotion the Salt and Sugar of Music Growth

Part 1 The tastes of salt and sugar are totally inverse, but both taste amazing in a cake. The cake resemble artists in this article. I am going to explore how sugar and salt are likened to the roles played by management and promotion to raise the value of musicians. The first role is that of the musician. Without doing enough there is nothing salt and sugar will do. The most important ingredient in the success of a musical career is the musician’s talent. Through passion, practice and performance the musician becomes a product. So the role of the musician is unleashing talent endowed in him or her. Management somehow plays a bitter role. It seasons the career of a musician by instilling discipline to the business of an artist. The business face of a musician is designed by management. The turning of raw talent from home and making it a talking point in the market is an effort of management. The principles required are usually sour, there has to be a lot of rules to follow. Pro...

F&G a player in Food and Beverages where the competition beseem a dog eat dog feels the heat too.  The Food and Beverages sector has tendency to spice up their menu’s with entertainment to attract numbers. My belief is the patrons are the winners after all, the galaxy of choice is to their benefit. F&G Restaurant located in the heart of the Harare Exhibition Park is gearing up to ward off the challenge. The restaurant is open from Monday to Sunday. F&G Restaurant offers beverages, meals and entertainment. The Exhibition Park is known by white collar jobbed personnel as a lunch mall. Africans Chiselled To Alternate Their Freedom Proclamation

An Analysis By Fred Farai Nyakudanga FFF What Africans owned before Colonisation wasn’t land and territory only. African Natives had a strong cultural practice, governance, justice and belief systems. Their survival tools hunting, animal husbandry, trade and socialisation was out of this world.  The coming of the White Man all of these things were discarded and replaced. The land was improved and sophisticated machinery was introduced in mining secluding land the major tangible claim Africans had a straight right. Though it uncomplicated some tasks, African Natives resisted the White Man’s invasion in total. The gun overpowered Africans. To mitigate the African Native‘s mental resistance the White Man introduced his education system.  My paternal grandmother told me stories about how it was difficult to enrol for school, back in the 1930s. Missionaries had a torrid time to convince African Natives to accept their method of education. My grandmother evaded her parents wh...

De-mining Engineer, Businessman And Music Enthusiast Longjones Turning 50

Longjones is turning half a century on the 19th of March. Longjones is a moniker for Traicos Mutodzaniswa’s tallness that is obtrusive even when he is sitting down. He grew and went to school in Glen View where he met Tryson‘s father the late music Legend Naison Chimbetu who was a close friend of his father. Preparations of the soldier outside war are at advanced stages. His family is preparing home celebrations for the whole family, relatives and friends. FFF is coordinating the after party bash at Landmark Night Club Chiremba Shops. Tryson Chimbetu is going to lead entertainment while Blade and Legend will support. Longjones is a passionate Music Promoter, not playing live music will be catastrophic to the rhythm of his veins. I would like to believe Naison Chimbetu contributed to Longjones‘s decision to become a Music Promoter because he experienced the music business practice with his bare eyes when he was privileged to attend Naison‘s shows with his father. Longjones cast ...

An Architect With Univocal Music Talent - Papa Sodza

The reason why God gives human beings talents is for them to serve each other. The idea comes from that a single man can not handle and be good in everything, otherwise he will be a “Jack of all trades and master of none”. So each man distinctly specialise to enable exchange of expertise.  We are mortals too there isn’t enough time to master everything. Papa Sodza born Walter Sonayi is one talented musician who discovered his talent while growing up in the south eastern part of Zimbabwe in Chipinge. The area is a native land of the Ndau people. Far away from the capital of Zimbabwe you would wonder how he mastered music which he probably listened to on the radio. Tracing back to the time he grew up power was scarce, there wasn’t any electricity connection in most rural areas. Solar energy is a recent invention so people relied on batteries to power their radios. Most of the time the battery was reserved for news and soccer commentaries when particularly fathers would want to know...

The African Enigma: Blood and the Weight of Ancestral Sin

From the womb, we inherit a curse rooted in the theosophy of our ancestors. This curse is tied to our bloodline, an unchosen legacy that binds us to the past. Seeking escape from this cycle is a quest for wisdom, yet it means challenging the deeply ingrained beliefs passed down through generations. By doing so, we risk sinning against the sacred oaths sworn by our forebears, whose ancient power and wisdom still reign supreme. Our African ancestors lived life on their own terms, without our input, yet we are their representatives today. Despite their foresight in considering future generations, most of their possessions were ephemeral, lacking the lasting impact they had envisioned. Without modern institutions like banks or foundations to preserve wealth, their tried-and-true methods were severely disrupted during the Scramble for Africa. Today, we inherit the land, the bloodline, and the enduring legacy of our ancestors. However, the rapid changes unfolding around us were unfores...

The Philanthropic Chiremba Hwesa Masango

Written by Fred Farai Nyakudanga FFF Hearing the name Zimtotems ricochet the custom practice of Zimbabweans. From long ago Africans identified themselves to unique prowess of particular animals as a way of distinguishing themselves from each other, hence they called each other by their totems. Zimtotems is an organisation that was established by Mr Struggle Dhlamini to exhibit his artistic, philanthropist and cultural preservation work. If you are a regular reveller of the Zimbabwean entertainment circuit you might have met the Zimtotems Traditional Band playing. The band entertains families, patrons at various joints widespread across Zimbabwe. They usually hold their main show each and every Sunday where their fans are treated to Zimbabwean traditional music. Zimtotems Traditional Band plays at biras and national cultural events. Mr Struggle Dhlamini referred to as Chiremba Hwesa Masango in the cultural circles says his vision is key on cultural art, philanthropy, cultural restoratio...

Unavailability Of An Official Music Distribution System Depriving Upcoming Musicians.

Written by Fred Farai Nyakudanga FFF   Music is important to our lives, I personally would not function well if all the music in the world is quietened. Actually it’s naturally impossible to stop all music playing. Have you ever walked into a thick forest alone. An unknown bird will volunteer to entertain you. Maybe the ability to choose the music you prefer is what can be affected but otherwise music will always play,  no one can ever stop music. Singers and musicians get inspired by a lot of societal happenings, with the intention to inform, tell a story and entertain musicians reveal complicated issues that are not easily communicable in public. They make songs out of unpalatable subjects and mitigate their effects to the society in the process.  Oliver Mtukudzi sang Tozeza Baba. The song is a narration of children’s perception of their abusive father who beats up their mother. The children express how this vacuums out their happiness. Weather the song has been played ...

Jah Lemmy Prepared To Endure The Thorny Music Journey To Stardom

Profiled by Fred Farai Nyakudanga (FFF) Ginatsiya Nyanhete Aka, Jah Lemmy is a talented and humble Afro Trade Musician born 36 years ago in Mbizo. He is of Korekore origin, Jah Lemmy comes from Guruve. He started his career when he was about 10 years old, by mimicking the late Oliver Mutukudzi as well as the Blacks Unlimited Boss, Thomas Mapfumo. Jah Lemmy’ parents did not pay attention as they considered it as noise, they discouraged him initially. Later on they realised it was really his talent and they started giving him support. In 2008 a well wisher donated a set of Marimba to Jah Lemmy after realising his passion in music. Jah Lemmy' friends came through to learn how to play marimba, this prompted the formation of Guruve Marimba Arts Ensemble.   Jah Lemmy took leadership of the band. He managed to take the band to Chibuku road to fame twice, the band came second in the first competition out of the ten competitors that represent the 10 provinces of our country. The band finall...

Kobiri Speaks His Heart Out On The Economic Hardships Zimbabweans Are Facing

The 22nd of  December is known for the Unity Accord that was signed in 1987 by our great political leaders both late, Joshua Nkomo and Robert Mugabe who led ZAPU PF and ZANU PF respectively. Ever since it has been celebrated as a public holiday. The Unity Day coincided with KOBIRI The Protest Musician’s birthday. Fred Farai Nyakudanga FFF caught up with Kobiri while celebrating. FFF : What is your burning desire about the situation Zimbabweans are going through now? Kobiri : It is my Prayer that the situation back home returns to normal, my heart melts every time I follow what’s going on back home, it's tough and the situation is worsening. FFF : As a musician yourself what measures have you taken to help your fellow countrymen? Kobiri : As a Musician and an Entrepreneur, I have tried to call upon my fellow artists who are influential to use their louder voices to raise the plight of the masses for consideration with authorities. I have also on record times advised fellow artists t...

Zimtotems Treads Into The Revered Mobile Phone Ringtones with Zimbabwean Totem Laced Ringtones

The invention of the mobile phone seem to be the last convenience the world has been granted. It is portable and mobile. I can’t imagine any other gadget that will overtake the cellphone in the near future. A single mobile phone has a watch, dictionary, bible, typewriter, calendar, social media access, entertainment banking services and many other services.  The mobile phone has become a media tool for reaching out worldwide through internet backed social media, but it also has advanced cultural exchange through high quality images and music. It has become very easy to share music, images, information and sending money through the phone. I am really excited at how our African people have taken advantage also to identify themselves through the platforms and applications found on smart phones. Not so long back we were compelled to to English ringtones they were the only ones available and fixed in our mobile phones. The Indians and the Chinese also took the chance later on to ...
